Take Me Home

Welcome to the newest feature in The Straight Poop! We felt that it would be a good idea to feature pets who are in need of a loving forever home, particularly since we here at Kamp K9 often hear about animals displaced by the misfortunes of so many people and families in these times. If you know a pet who needs a new home, and who doesn’t have the benefit of much publicity, let us know, and we can feature them here. Information given here is preliminary only and comes either from rescue organizations or owners; contact them for more information.

Here’s Winston, a Yorkshire Terrier who’s currently in Arkansas but available for adoption in Maine through Canine Commitment. Little Winston, listed as a "senior" dog, was taken to a shelter by a lady who said he’d been a stray for weeks around the lake where she lived. His hair was long and matted, and he was quite traumatized and terrified of all people. He wouldn't let anyone get near him. After a few weeks in a foster situation, he has learned to trust again and is friendly and sociable. His right eye had been removed, and it looks like he's had an injury to his right front leg in the past, likely the same incident that cost him his eye. He has arthritis in the leg but is fine with daily meds for that. Winston does okay with other dogs most of the time, but he has no interest in interacting with them. Winston is up-to-date with routine shots, house trained, and neutered.

Freddy, at left, is a handsome-looking guy listed as a "senior" cat at the Animal Refuge League in Westbrook. His Petfinder page doesn’t have much information on him, other than that he’s up to date on his shots and neutered, but that’s a testament to the fact that, unfortunately, there are so many cats given up for adoption that getting all their information on all their web pages is a monumental task. More information on Freddy (including personality and compatibility info) can be gotten from the Refuge League’s staff.

Please consider adopting a senior animal if you, or someone you know, are searching for the right pal to give a forever home.
