The Latest Scoop at Kamp K9
THANK YOU ALL!!
Well,
folks, here we are at the start of another new year,
saying "good riddance" to a tumultuous 2008 that
was filled with rancorous rain and monetary meltdowns.
However, there were some great things that happened
as well, and we here at Kamp K9 are very grateful
for the success we had this past year.
In fact, Kamp K9 reached a new milestone, as 2008 gross sales hit a new high-water mark. We are EXTREMELY grateful to all of you, our customers, friends, and family, for your business, your support and encouragement, your tireless cheerleading on our behalf, and constructive advice. This is a business at which many people want to have a go, and it seems like there’s always a day care or a kennel somewhere nearby, so to have any kind of growth in this field, with no big advertising budget or national backing, is no small feat. From the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU ALL. In turn, Jennifer, Justin, and I wish the very best for all of you and yours in 2009.
Ice Issues/Spring Plans & Hopes
Last winter, we didn’t know how much snow we were
going to get, and didn’t know that it was all going
to be heavy and wet snow. (Our crystal ball was
clearly in need of replacement.) That snow was difficult
to impossible to clear by hand, even with a snow
blower, so a plow man was hired to finish out the
winter. By that time it was a little too late, as
slushy snow got packed down by traffic and 6-foot
tall snow piles had made for a tight parking lot,
and a pretty effective water retention wall. Add
the fact that the ground under the parking area
is dense marine clay, and we had a recipe for an
ice rink. Our ice last February through April was
approximately 6 inches deep in some places. Now,
the hope for this year is that we won’t have the
same level of difficulty, because we already have
our plow lined up. There’ll be some level of ice
issues every year, because of the melt runoff from
our front yard flowing into the parking area, but
I think we’ve done what we can to make things as
good as we can get them. So be sure to tell all
your dog- and cat-owning friends about us...if business
continues to grow, we’ll be able to get the entire
driveway paved!
Also on the “property maintenance” tangent: One
of the things we did this fall was spread crushed
rock over the hilly section of the play yard between
the “east end” and the “west end.” It ended erosion
issues there and reduced mud exposure for your pups.
Our goal and fervent hope for this spring is to
do the same over the rest of the west end yard,
thus keeping your dogs cleaner for their trips home
at the end of the day.
